MARINES on a dangerous mission in Afghanistan risk the wrath of their superiors by backing a new campaign to help estranged dads get better access to their kids.
Battle-hardened commandos deep in the heart of Taliban country in Helmand province brandished placards supporting New Fathers 4 Justice.

Taking up arms for the outspoken campaigners could result in a carpeting from top brass – especially as the troops were in action situations.

A senior military source told the Mirror: “This certainly is a hell of a stunt to pull during what is a fairly hazardous mission on the front line. The Taliban won’t have been very far away.

“These guys have had a very arduous tour of Afghanistan and have done a tremendous job but they could get a ticking off from a senior officer.

“They are entitled to their opinion up to a point but they are certainly not entitled to voice it while on a patrol.”

The heavily armed troops posed for the pictures shortly after leaving their base in the lawless district of Nahr-e Saraj.

A military member of the campaign group, which has broken away from Fathers4Justice, said: “Many in the Armed Forces are familiar with stories of bitter divorces because operational tours can put a huge strain on a relationship.”

They want to put pressure on David Cameron who they claim has refused to help estranged dads in their battle to get fair access to their children.

The PM has also alienated many troops over the string of RAF and Army sackings sparked by Government cuts.

An MoD spokesman said: “Members of the Armed Forces are entitled to their beliefs provided their practice does not conflict with our core values and standards.”

CAMPAIGNERS dressed as comic book superheroes staged a demonstration outside a Gloucestershire military base last night.

CAPTAIN EQUALITY FIGHTS FOR EQUAL RIGHTS
The group, calling themselves New Fathers 4 Justice, threw a banner over a tank gun barrel at the Ashchurch military base saying "Give Dads Equal Rights" to highlight what they say is an increase in military fathers being denied access rights to see their children.

They say the coalition government is ignoring a report by former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith which concluded fathers have an an essential role to play in their children's lives.

A spokesman for the group - which is not connected to Fathers 4 Justice - branded the UK family court system a "complete pantomime farce."

"UK Family Law works on the basis that no evidence is needed - the mother's word is good enough.

"If a mother or custodial parent informs the court they think the child may be at risk, the court has no alternative but to side with custodial parent usually the mother. "Although this law protects many women and children each year, it is being abused each year by unscrupulous partners to stop kind, loving and hardworking fathers from seeing their children.

“Fathers have been let down by this Tory led report and its time to take our gloves off, roll up our sleeves and expose this corruption. The promised us a presumption of contact yet we get no real change. Dads are lining up to climb roofs again and cause whatever disruption necessary to highlight this injustice.

"Nothing less than an automatic presumption of equal contact with the children when the parents split as a starting point will do. This will give both parents equal parity of rights to see the children. In short, we want dads to have an equal status....same as mum."

Spokesperson "Captain Equality" from Bristol said: “After David Cameron’s recent attacks on fathers this Dad’s army is fighting back and were not quitting anytime soon. It is clear that this government can only see one side of the story and does not want to deal with ‘muppet’ mothers who deny access or break contact orders.”

Two 'New Fathers 4 Justice' activists made it into inside the Big Brother complex this evening.

Several other activists caused a distraction on the roundabout outside the main entrance to Elstree Studios dressed as Superheroes.

One activist entered the Big Brother house by impersonating a member of the BB security team by obtaining polo shits and clothing from security personnel. He is known to have made it inside the complex using codes and call signs for the various security positions throughout the facility before being stopped by security staff.

He is known to be Pete Luger, 34 a builder from Woking and was dressed a Captain Flash under his security uniform.

A pressure group campaigning for fathers to have equal access rights to their children after break-up or divorce met at the weekend in Witney in an attempt to convince residents to lobby David Cameron to change the law.

On Saturday, July 24, about 25 members of New Fathers 4 Justice met up on Wood Green, outside the Three Pigeons Inn, before taking their protest into Witney town centre. Dressed as comic book superhero characters, they toured the town with loudspeakers and horns demanding that the Prime Minister come out and met them to discuss their grievances.

Nigel Ace, the spokesperson for New Fathers 4 Justice, said: “The government is not giving fathers equal status in order to see their children after separation or divorce. Basically, if mothers stop contact, hundreds of thousands of dads each year are stopped from seeing their children. That can lead into protracted court cases that can go on for years. One of the people I came up with today has been fighting since 2004, another chap has not seen his daughter since she was one, and she has now turned 18.”

Witney Town Council had warned the group that camping on the public green in Woodstock Road would be breaking the law, but they threatened to disperse across the area and “cause mayhem” if they were stopped from camping. On Sunday the protestors, escorted by the police, went to the Prime Minister’s house in Dean in the morning and made declarations over a loudspeaker. It is not thought the PM was in at the time of the visit.

Samantha Haynes from Wootton, was one of a number of women who also attended the event, dubbed ‘Witney’s Glastonbury festival of Fatherhood’. Dressed as Wonder Woman, she said: “I’ve got four children, and I’m allowed one of them full-time, the other three I see 18 hours a year. So I’m a great believer in New Fathers 4 Justice and think we should have equal status, as two parents are better than one.”

Organiser Nigel Ace also leafleted the West Oxfordshire Conservative Association office at Waterloo House wearing a David Cameron mask, and said the protest could be organised on a monthly basis in the future.

Fathers calling for equal access to their children following a divorce or separation protested outside the Alconbury home of Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly.

Dressed in superhero costumes, members of New Fathers 4 Justice set up camp outside his home with purple tents and brought their ‘Batboat’ to use on a brook which runs past the MP’s house.

They targeted Mr Djanogly because he is Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice and the protesters believe he will play an important role in future family legislation.

A man calling himself Captain Equality, part of the group, said they aimed to put their message across to Mr Djanogly in a civilised manner.

“We are going to be right on his case because he has a key part in this,” he said. “If he fobs us off we will come back and it will not be so humorous next time.”

Captain Equality, who had a two-and-a-half year battle for access to his daughter, said: “It is what we would call a pilot demo in the run-up to the David Cameron demonstration in Witney next month.”

He said there would also be a demonstration at the home of Kenneth Clarke, Secretary of State for Justice, before they tackled the Prime Minister.

Captain Equality said: “What we are looking for is an automatic presumption of 50-50 status between parties after a divorce or separation. It doesn’t mean 50 per cent of the time, just that you can have as much time as you need.”

Protester Barry Gaynor, 44, from Peterborough, said: “Every day we hear from disgruntled dads who are becoming more militant with the lack of contact with their children.

“Daily, distressed fathers contact us in desperation about the abuse they are suffering at hands of the family court system.

“In the 21st century, fathers deserve equality when it comes to child contact and nothing less will suffice.”

He added: “It is only a matter of time before angry fathers try to climb rooftops, courts, bridges and landmarks again.

“We would rather be spending time with our children but feel we have no other option.”

Mr Djanogly has said that a review of legal aid and family law was taking place, which included a review of contact, and he hoped campaigners would be pleased with that.

Mr Laws had not returned to his rural residence this afternoon, but a group of fathers’ rights campaigners did arrive at the address.

The New Fathers for Justice had scheduled the protest in Lydmarsh weeks before the scandal broke - but made the most of the unexpected publicity.

They argued that cutting expenditure on the family courts was the way to beat the deficit.

Five campaigners - two dressed as Batman, one as Captain America, another as Superman, and one as Iron Man - unveiled a banner outside Mr Laws’ wooden gate.

It read: “Mend Broken Britain. Give Dads Equality.”

Some 15 officers were estimated by one constable to be in attendance at the scene. Some were visible in Mr Laws’ garden, others patrolling the private road in front of his home.

Father-of-two Richard Addams, 44, from Taunton, who dressed as Batman, said: “We chose him because he is a prominent member of the Government and in charge of the country’s finances - or what’s left of them.

“One billion pounds a year is spent on legal aid to mothers to fight their cases in the family courts. If he wants to save money he should give fathers automatic rights of contact, provided the child is not at risk.”

Group leader Nigel Ace, 42, from Clevedon, spoke through a megaphone while his comrades held the banner.

Apparently addressing Mr Laws, Mr Ace said: “If you keep your job, you can make a saving, sir. You need to get your party to support fathers. If you cut the cost of the family courts you can actually make people happy.”

The protest, which lasted under an hour, passed without incident and officers allowed Mr Ace to speak to the media outside the property. Later the campaigners put leaflets through his door.

It is understood that Mr Laws will not return to the address today.

A GROUP of dads from the Bristol area took their New Fathers 4 Justice campaign for equal contact with children to the home of former Cabinet minister David Laws at the weekend as he was embroiled in controversy over his expenses.

Dressed as superheroes, the four headed for Chard in Mr Laws' Yeovil constituency in the hope of being able to speak with the then Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
Mr Laws resigned over the weekend after revelations he claimed expenses for rent paid to his boyfriend, in breach of Parliamentary rules.

But the campaigners said it was unconnected to events in Mr Laws' private life and had been arranged before the story broke.

They took their "justice tent" and a portable cooker so they could pitch overnight if necessary.

The four started their day by meeting up in Bristol so they could walk around Broadmead and raise awareness of their campaign before travelling down to Somerset to meet several other protesters.

'Superheroes' call for equality

WOULD-BE superheroes Captain Cash (left) and Captain Equality, members of New Fathers 4 Justice, had to resort to a megaphone to get their message across outside Richard Huish College on Monday.

The captains - aka Mark Harris and Wellington’s Neil Richardson - were at the college to speak to Vince Cable, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, about fathers’ rights in custody disputes.

Mr Cable, who was in town to support election candidate Jeremy Browne, accepted a copy of Mr Harris’ book, Family Court Hell, but declined a request for a chat.

Mr Richardson is a keen campaigner and recently confronted Conservative leader David Cameron on the issue.

DENNIS the Menace, Bananaman and Captain Equality were among the superheroes who travelled through Oxfordshire as part of a New Fathers for Justice demonstration.

About 40 fathers – and some mothers – from across the country gathered in the centre of Oxford on Saturday.

The group travelled the streets in two battle buses before heading to Witney to Conservative Party leader David Cameron’s constituency off-ice, where they met Henry Bellingham, Conservative shadow spokesman for justice, who spoke to them for 30 minutes.

The protesters also held placards and brandished David Cameron masks.

New Fathers for Justice national co-ordinator Nigel Ace, from Bristol, who was dressed as Captain Equality, hailed the event as a success.

He said: “We had a lot of people coming up to us and saying they are all facing these problems, so we had a good response.

“It got a bit hot under these suits but it was worth it.”

New Fathers for Justice campaigns for fathers to have more equal access to their children following family breakdown. Members have staged a number of high profile protests in Oxfordshire.

A CAMPAIGNER from Clevedon questioned Conservative Party leader David Cameron when he hosted a question and answer session at a Bristol school.

Nigel Ace, pictured, from New Fathers 4 Justice, asked Mr Cameron if he would give dads a 50/50 contact in cases of separation and divorce.

Mr Cameron said: "If it gets to court, you have to allow the court to make a decision. What I hope is that fewer cases will have to go to court. We need more family mediation, more agreements."

Speaking after the session, Mr Ace said that he hopes that if Mr Cameron becomes Prime Minister, he will reconsider his answer.

Mr Ace said: "Hope gets you nowhere.
"How will 'hope' make a change?

That is I'm afraid a feeble answer and one which surprises me.

"With regard to mediation, this only works if both parties are wishing to work together. It is futile otherwise.

"I have to admit that I was hopeful of change from Mr Cameron but now I'm not."

A GROUP of fathers’ rights campaigners, including men dressed as Batman and Robin, descended on the Willow Man near Bridgwater this afternoon.

The group, who say they were part of the New Fathers 4 Justice group, arrived at the iconic statue off the M5 motorway at around 2pm today.

The campaigners, who say they want greater rights for fathers to see their children, attempted to peg a 10ft St George’s flag near the Willow Man with the words Vote English written on it, a reference to their support for the English Democrats political party. A spokesman for the group said the man dressed as Batman left the scene after a traffic officer arrived but it was not known what had happened to the man dressed as Robin.

THE BURNING ISSUE FOR FATHERS GROUP: OXFORD MAIL. A selection of superheroes yesterday staged two protests in Oxfordshire in a bid to gain more rights for fathers. The New Fathers for Justice campaigners demonstrated in Oxford and Witney. The group began protesting at Oxford Combined Court Centre at about 8am. At least one protester tried unsuccessfully to scale the side of the St Aldate’s building. The campaigners later gathered outside David Cameron MP’s office in Witney at about 2pm. They brandished an effigy of Gordon Brown, but were stopped from burning it by police. Jason Sands, 36, of East Sussex, said: “We are trying to get a message across to David Cameron that we want him to support us. This Labour Government has done nothing to help us. Two New Fathers 4 Justice campaigners, Nigel Ace from Clevedon and Jeff Skinner from Staple Hill met Liam Fox MP at his surgery on Friday night in Pill.

The superhero's wanted to ask Mr. Fox for an equal parity of rights for dads to see their children and to make the 'secret' family courts 'open'.

The dads last month confronted Mr. Skinner's MP Roger 'The Dodger' Berry and got a frosty reception, however they were very heartened as Mr. Fox said that 50/50 status for dads was fair and only right.

He also agreed for the family courts to be brought in line with the crown and magistrates courts.

Nigel Ace, a protester from Harriet Harman's roof last year said "Why has it taken so long for common sense to prevail. Mr. Fox has brought common sense and a breath of fresh air into this debate".

"We can now look forward to having equal status, same as Mum's and this will stop many of the 100,000 new child contact dispute cases that come to court each year in the UK."

New Fathers 4 Justice protest in Southampton for Chandler's Ford dad Lee Moorman

BATMAN, Superman, Captain America, and Spiderman joined forces for a protest in Southampton.

The “superheroes” from New Fathers 4 Justice hijacked the city’s old town walls near the Bargate in support of Chandler’s Ford dad Lee Moorman, 30, who is fighting for access to his child.

Motorists passing below honked their support while around half a dozen police gathered close by.

The protesters unfurled banners from the bridge over Castle Way and demanded equal rights for fathers over a megaphone.

Mr Moorman said he was having “sleepless nights” after last seeing his three-year old son in July. He said he wanted joint custody not a couple of hours access in a contact centre.

“I’ve got to go to the family courts which I’m told will be a lengthy process and cost a lot of money.”

Mr Moorman said he was planning a monthly support group in Southampton. He was joined by protester Mark Harris, 50, who said he needed 133 court hearings to win the right to see his children.

The former Shirley resident set fire to a wheelbarrow of the court papers he accumulated over his ten-year battle as a show of disgust for the “biased” family courts.

Mr Harris was one of the protesters who last year scaled the roof of deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman’s home while she and her husband were inside.

Dear Mr. Berry,

Many thanks for your time and allowing me to attend your surgery with Mr. Skinner on Thursday.

You stated on BBC Bristol radio that you would not advocate a 50/50 split on the basis of it needs to be in the "best interests of the child".

I am very disappointed with your stance as you told us at the end of our meeting that it "was only fair that Dad should have 50/50 contact, as a starting point". Without being cynical, are you telling us one thing and preaching another???

What I tried to explain to you was, that if there was equality and an equal parity of rights, then the majority of the 100,000 new cases per year would not come to court. In the minimal cases of "bad parents", then we have a system in place, which is called the Social Services, which act in the best interests of the child.

Your stance is "presumptive", that is to say, if the father had 50/50 then this would not be in the best interests of the child. In law and other equality rights legislation, there has been no "presumptive stance". For example, we give black people equal rights in this country, but we dont presume that they are more likely to get involved in gun/knife crime than white men do we?? The fact is they are more likely than white men...so on that basis, do you think it would be politically correct to revoke their equality rights??

The minimal "bad parent" cases are minimal amongst the dearth of contact cases that go on each year. In fact, the "bad parents" is equally split between Mums and Dads. Recent Domestic violence stats show that the reported cases are equal between men and women and that a woman is 7 times more likely to report an incident than a man. (On that basis, it might be that Mum is the main culprit of DV)

The recent independent UNICEF and OECD reports as well as Iain Duncan Smiths "Breakdown Britain report" demonstrate that a family unit is best for children or where broken, for the child to see BOTH PARENTS. All the evidence says that absent fathers are more likely to give our children more likely hood of getting involved in drugs, suicide, mental health problems, disobedience, anti social behaviour etc

Labour have incentivised the family to "be apart" in the tax system. This is utter madness!!

Labour have passed the IVF and Embryology bill that legislates that the parent or "second partner" does not have to be the biological father.

New technology now going to be passed shows that there is no need for men anymore as artificial sperm has been invented.

Have we all gone mad???

This is not good old fashioned commonsense.

We are not looking for much Roger....just equality......we just want to see our kids.....that's all!!

The "Superdads" wanted to ask Mr. Berry why Labour have ignored the demands of fathers rights since the protests began in 2002.

Local father Jefferey Arthur Derek Skinner, 42 of Staple Hill dressesd as Batman and fellow Harriet Harman roof top protester Nigel Ace, 41 of Clevedon, decided to put Roger "The Dodger" Berry on the spot in their superhero outfits.

New Fathers 4 justice protesters converged on the Royal Courts of Justice in London today in a bid to clean up the family law system.

The group which is the 'continuation' of the former 'fathers4justice' says that family law is twenty years out of date and is not fit for purpose and is in a complete mess.

The Government won't clean up the mess so the 'superheroes' who fight for fathers rights have embarked on an overdue spring clean of the building and system.

Superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Mr. Incredible and Captain America tried to suck up the mess with a specially modified "Bat" family law cleaner. They hope to make a start on cleaning the 100,000 child contact cases that come into dispute each year in the UK. One in three children will lose contact with their Father within 5 years of their lives.

The group have a specially modified "batcleaner" that will suck up the inequality and biasness within the family courts and has specially adapted settings to deal with the dirty problems of "false allegations" and the "nasty smell of corruption." .

"If the family courts were "open" how they should be, We wouldn't need to suck up the mess in them and the other courts in the land, like my bat cleaner the law certainly does suck! We hope to clean up family law...who knows, It might suck up a few corrupt judges and the "gravy train, money hungry solicitors"

Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, has only given a token gesture to our demands. Currently, only selected members of the media or selected cases will be seen and reported. This does not go far enough and the family courts must be brought in line with the crown and magistrates courts.

'New Fathers 4 Justice' will not let the Government sweep this issue under the carpet and in the coming months we will demonstrate to the Government using direct action that New Fathers 4 Justice mean business.

A BRISTOL judge hailed a "momentous day for the press" as family courts across the country were opened to the media for the very first time.
His Honour Judge Paul Barclay made the comments before the first open family case at Bristol Guildhall.
But campaign group New Fathers 4 Justice, an offshoot of the original campaign group for fathers' rights, threatened to "storm family court hearings" in the city unless they are made "completely open".

At the Guildhall yesterday, both parties in the child care case were asked if they objected to a Post reporter being present, before the hearing started with Judge Barclay reminding the court that "no reporting of any proceedings should in any way identify the child or any other lay persons in the case".

Although rules have been changed to allow reporters to attend many more family court hearings, reporting restrictions mean that it is very difficult for journalists to write a meaningful report of what they see and hear.

In addition, the new rules contain a number of provisions which will allow courts to exclude journalists.
At yesterday's hearing, ushers, clerks, lawyers and Judge Barclay were very accommodating – but it is ultimately up to individual courts and judges if they accept reporters.
The judge even called a hotline run by industry body The Newspaper Society to confirm that the Post reporter was a bona fide newsgatherer.
Ushers pointed the Post in the direction of courts allowing reporting, limited to just two yesterday – a private custody case, and a child care case.
The care case involved two foreign boys, aged one and two, whose mother had abandoned them.
There had been plans for the mother, who has mental health problems, to take her children back to their native country but she had gone missing.
The boys have since been in the care of Gloucestershire social services but there has been a delay in adoption proceedings. The case was adjourned until Friday.

Campaign groups said more still needs to be done to ensure that courts are totally open. Nigel Ace, Bristol co-ordinator of New Fathers 4 Justice, said: "Pressure from New F4J is building up regarding Jack Straw's 'open courts'. They are only being opened to selective media on selected cases. We want them to be 100 per cent open as per the crown and magistrates' courts."

Bristol City Council yesterday welcomed the new rules, and said it would help public understanding.
The spokeswoman said: "We welcome the move to allow reporters into family courts and hope that it will help improve general understanding of the role of social workers and the complexity of issues involving the care of children."
Campaign group Families Need Fathers (FNF) is disappointed at the new rules.
Spokesperson Jon Davies said: "Whileit is vital to protect the identities of the children we cannot understand why reporters will be forbidden to read court documents or judgements.

New Fathers 4 Justice held a "sympathetic" rally in Bristol in praise of a new play by Mamma Mia! writer Catherine Johnson, which features two dads battling for access to their children.
Campaigners dressed as superheroes gathered outside the play, starring two fathers protesting on Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge. The work reprises F4J's real-life occupation of the landmark.

A group of 10 Batman, Spiderman and Mr Incredible lookalikes, spoke to theatre buffs on their way to see Suspension, which was staged at the Bristol Old Vic on Tuesday night.

The New F4J was set up by Nigel Ace and Mark Harris and other key members after the original fathers' rights organisation was closed by founder Matt O'Connor last September.

Johnson is a member of the theatre's board who began her career at the Old Vic and her latest play focuses on the pain caused by broken families.

Mr Ace, a 41-year-old sales manager, said it was "brilliant" that the play took inspiration from his movement and hoped that ticket holders would be moved by the themes.

The father of one said: "These are proper theatregoers so we are playing it low-key, sympathetic and melancholic.

"We are fully supportive of this play as it looks at the plight of fathers across the UK and was inspired by our demonstration on the bridge in 2004.

"We didn't want to go on the roof as that would give the wrong message. We are handing out leaflets and hope people will be moved by the play and want to find out more from us.

"Our message tonight is that we are a tragic comedy in a real-life play. In real life the reality is that divorce is ever-prevalent and children are likely to be involved."

Harriet Harman's trade unionist husband today spoke of the terror he felt when two fathers' rights campaigners climbed onto his house's roof dressed as comic book superheros.
Speaking at the protestors' trial, Jack Dromey said he thought Fathers4Justice campaigners Jonathan Stanesby and Mark Harris were burglars trying to break into his house.
Dromey, who is Labour Party Treasurer and husband of the Labour deputy leader, said the invasion of his home 'was a matter of alarm and continuing distress'.

The deputy leader of the Transport and General Workers' Union - who has himself taken part in numerous political protests - went on to criticise direct action on people's private homes as 'out of bounds'.
Jonathan 'Jolly' Stanesby, 43, and Mark Harris, 49, who are both from Devon, scaled Mrs Harman's three-storey home in south-east London on June 8 this year.

Harris was dressed as 'Cash Gordon' and Stanesby was wearing a Superman outfit, but called himself as 'Captain Conception'. Once on the roof the pair unveiled a banner reading: 'A father is for life; not just for conception'.
The protestors later claimed they had got onto the house by simply entering the garden through an unlocked gate and propping a ladder against the building's wall.
It is thought that Miss Harman was targeted because, in her previous role as Solicitor General, she was accused of not doing enough to open up access to the family courts.

Fathers' rights campaigners have also claimed that Mrs Harman has done nothing to support their cause, despite hinting that she supported their aims.
As a result of the protest, which started at 8.15am and lasted around six hours, Mrs Harman, 58, and her husband had to temporarily vacate their home.
Yesterday Mr Dromey, 60, related how, on the morning of the protest, he had been woken by loud thumping which he thought was made by burglars.
He told Westminster Magistrates Court: 'This was a heavy thumping just above me which led me to conclude to my horror that somebody was trying to break into our house.'
He added: 'I've lived in that house for 31 years. I love the house. We've brought our kids up in the house. We're proud of the house.

'Our home was invaded, that was a matter of alarm and continuing distress. It's an experience we would never wish to go through again.'
Mr Dromey said he could not condone the protesters' actions, saying: 'Nothing can ever justify invading someone's private home. Private homes and private lives are out of bounds.
'You should never, ever violate their personal privacy, their personal homes.'
Stanesby, a stonemason, and Harris, a driving instructor, have pleaded not guilty to a charge of harassment. Stanesby has also pleaded not guilty to a further charge of failing to follow a police officer's instructions. The trial continues.

A man who fathered a child for a lesbian couple has confronted a group protesting over Dawn Primarolo's role in the Human Embryology and IVF Bill.

The break-away New Fathers 4 Justice group held their first protest march near her Bristol constituency office.

The group claim the health minister's support for the Bill signalled a dismissal of the need for a male role-model in a family.

A neighbour said he was proud to have provided sperm for lesbian friends.

A Department of Health spokeswoman said it "fully recognised the role fathers play in their children's lives".

'Parents valued'

She added: "In the current law as it stands, the law refers to the need for a father, and we are replacing this with the need for supportive parenting.

"Research evidence shows that it is quality parenting that counts, rather than gender.

"We are not doing away with fathers, we are valuing all parents."

Unfortunately for the 10-strong protest group, the health minister had left her office in Chessel Street 20 minutes before they arrived.

The noisy demonstration brought residents from their homes. Several angrily confronted the group.

One man, who did not want to be named, questioned the F4J's attitude and revealed he had been a sperm donor for two lesbian friends whose baby was born six months ago.

He told the protesters he was "very proud to have facilitated two mothers to have a child".

When the Embryology Bill was debated in May, Mrs Primarolo, in response to shadow health minister's Mark Simmonds demand for "male role models", said "that would create an additional hurdle" for lesbian couples and single women.

Last week, Fathers 4 Justice was closed down by its founder. Immediately after the closure, several key members of F4J have set up "New Fathers 4 Justice".

As our first demo, we shall be protesting outside the Labour MP, Dawn Primarolo Health Ministers office in Bristol.

The MP and the labour Government, were under scrutiny in May for pushing ahead with the Human Embryology and IVF bill. This was because the "need for a father" was controversially dismissed by Primarolo and the Labour Government.

When responding to Tory shadow Health Minister's Mark Simmonds demand for "male role models", Primarolo was quoted saying "that would create an additional hurdle" for lesbian couples and single women.

"It is the government's view that all parents accessing treatment would assume to be supportive parents unless there was evidence to the contrary," she said.

Nigel Ace, who will front the demonstration on Friday September 19 th, said " This stance by the Health Minister flies in the face of good, proper and traditional foundations of raising children. We want them to focus on getting real Dads in the family, not artificial ones!!"

Mr. Ace who was a recent roof top protester on Harriet Harman's roof will be joined by many "NEW F4J "supporters including Mark Harris, Tony Ashby and Jolly Stanesby, all of whom protested on Harman's roof also. "We urge Dads who are not seeing their kids to join us on our first New F4J demo, so they can meet Dads who are in the same boat" We need to give Dads a chance in society today and this will be the first of many by us". I am writing with reference to the article in August 21st edition "family lawyer joins firm".

I object to the portrayal by this family law firm of making themselves sound as if they are the rescuers of family and matrimonial breakdown. Being a member of Fathers 4 Justice and a recent protester on Harriet Harman's roof and having been through the family court system myself, I would like every reader to be aware that its the lawyers that are the only winners in family court cases.

I have spoken to judges, MP's, barristers and solicitors and they openly admit that the whole system is adversarial. Being adversarial therefore, causes delay, which in turn profits the lawyers and costs the parents more money and heartbreak.

The worst part of it, is that its the children that are the biggest losers. It is these lawyers that goad their clients into a protracted and long winded and in most cases, wholly unnecessary fight in the family courts. In my case, which compared to most Dads from F4J was mild, I fought for 2 1/2 years as a litigant in person. In the end, I was found out to be a loving, devoted Dad. It cost my Daughter 2 1/2 years of not being able to see her Dad and for that alone, the actions of these lawyers is reprehensible. Batman, who was with me on Harmans roof hasn't seen his kids for 8 years!!

I would also like to point out that the legal aid system needs re looking at, as it allows spiteful Mums, who wish to prevent contact, carry on with false accusation after another. Father 4 Justice promote " two parents are better than one". To the Government, we want the following 4 measures of reform:

1. TO HAVE AN AUTOMATIC PRESUMPTION OF 50/50 CONTACT WHEN PARENTS SPLIT

2.OPEN COURTS, to be brought in line with the crown and magistrates courts.

3.COMPULSORY MEDIATION BEFORE THE COURT PROCESS,not after

4.ENFORCE COURT ORDERS. A 3 strikes and your're out policy would be a great detterent against uncooperative mothers. On the 3 rd strike , residence would be swopped to the father or from whoever has deliberately broken the court order.

A Father has been holding a roof-top protest at the London home of Labour Party deputy leader Harriet Harman.

Nigel Ace, from Swansea, was part of a two-man demonstration staged by campaign group Fathers 4 Justice at the property in Herne Hill yesterday.

Sales manager Mr Ace, aged 40, now lives in North Somerset, but was born in Gower and has a primary school age daughter, who still lives with her mother near Swansea.

Mr Ace, who took to the roof dressed as Spiderman, said he and his fellow protester, 42-year-old Tony Ashby from Leicester, who was dressed as Batman, were staging the protest following Ms Harman's recent promises over equality in the workforce.

Mr Ace said: "What about dads? We haven't got equality.

"The government is ignoring us and has a feminist agenda.

"We want Harriet Harman to come back here and engage in a debate with us and, if not, Gordon Brown should come.

"I am trained in survival, so I don't care how long we are up here."

It is the second protest at Ms Harman's south London home by members of Fathers 4 Justice in just over a month.

Officers from Scotland Yard were called to the home of the Minster for Women at 6.20am yesterday, where Mr Ace and Mr Ashby unfurled a banner on the roof declaring "Stop the war on dads".

The pair are said to have at least three days' supply of food and water.

According to Fathers 4 Justice, Mr Ace had regular contact with his daughter following the breakdown of his marriage until his former wife withdrew access, leading to a battle in the family courts which has lasted two-and-a-half years.

They say two expert reports concluded he was a loving father who posed no risk to his daughter, and that Mr Ace and his elderly parents just want to play a meaningful role in his daughter's life.

A spokesman for Fathers 4 Justice said: "In the way women campaigned for equal rights in the workplace, we want equal rights in the home and to our children.

"Our government and Harriet Harman are legally, morally obliged to deliver."

Two men who staged a similar protest on Ms Harman's home last month were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and causing a public nuisance, and were bailed by police until July 16 pending further inquiries.

The two men said they will not come down until the Government "takes them seriously".

The men said their names were Nigel Ace, 40, who was dressed as Spider-Man, and Tony Ashby, 42, in the Batman costume. They said they had enough food supplies to last for a week.

Mr Ace, who described himself as a sales manager from Bristol, said the stunt was provoked by Ms Harman's recent pledge to ensure equality in the workforce.

He said: "What about dads? We haven't got equality. The Government is ignoring us and has a feminist agenda. We want Harriet Harman to come back here and engage in a debate with us and, if not, then Gordon Brown should come. I am trained in survival, so I don't care how long we are up here."

Mr Ashby, who described himself as a painter and decorator from Leicester, said he had not seen his children for seven years.

The protest comes as Ms Harman is due to stand in for Gordon Brown in Prime Minister's Questions in the Commons while he attends the G8 summit in Japan. She left her home in Herne Hill, south London, at 7.45am and ignored the protesters, who draped a flag on her wall saying "Stop the war on dads".

The men said they had not been involved in any previous stunts and drew straws to decide who would stage the protest.

The demonstration is the second time in little over a month that Fathers 4 Justice has staged a protest at Ms Harman's home.

Dozens of employees were evacuated from a Bristol family court today when Fathers 4 Justice campaigners stormed the building and a fire alarm was set off.Court and construction staff huddled outside Bristol County Court, in the high-rise Greyfriars building in the city centre, and waited for the fire service to arrive.

Around 30 banner-waving protesters dressed as various superheroes stopped at the courts during a street demonstration through Bristol in support of fathers' rights.

Around 10 protesters dressed as Spiderman, Batman, Superman and The Incredibles forced their way into the court and chanted "What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now."

A fire alarm was activated, although court staff could not confirm who was responsible, and nearly 100 staff flooded into the street outside.

Two police vans arrived, along with two fire engines, and the men soon left the court building and continued their march.

The demonstration was joined by two campaigners who scaled the roof of deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman's home in Herne Hill, south London, earlier this week.

Jolly Stanesby and Mark Harris, both from south Devon, started the rooftop protest on Sunday and continued for more than 24 hours. They have since been bailed by police.

Mr Stanesby, from Ivybridge, said: "We always have a little get-together before Father's Day to put our message across."

Fathers 4 Justice is a civil rights group which campaigns for parental equality and a father's right to see his children.

Mr Stanesby added: "Just because my ex decided to move on to another boyfriend shouldn't mean I don't get to see my child.

"Her new boyfriend can see my child as long as he likes, whereas I have to apply and have boundaries. I have to have checks, doctor reports... The courts are corrupt."

Mr Stanesby said he and Mr Harris have written to Ms Harman to request a meeting with her.

He said: "She's Minister for Justice and Minister for Women - how can those two things go together?"

Mr Harris, from Plymouth, said opening family courts to the public was one of the focal points of the Fathers 4 Justice campaign.

He said: "Open up the courts so people can see the ridiculous decision made against fathers. I was once sent to prison for waving at my daughters."

The march started at The Pithay and moved up to Perry Road via Corn Street and Colston Avenue, where the group unveiled a new poster campaign.

The poster showed an image of a child dressed in a superhero costume and read: "If this little superhero doesn't see his daddy on Father's Day, he doesn't see half his family."

Fathers 4 Justice group in 'graffiti' paint stunt besides M5 at Burnham
Controversial campaign group Fathers 4 Justice has carried out two 'graffiti' paint stunts on land besides the M5 motorway in Burnham-On-Sea this week.

The high-profile group, which is renowned for its publicity-seeking tactics, has spray-painted its name over two sets of farmyard silage bags at two sites north and south of junction 22 of the M5 motorway at Burnham, as pictured here.

Sedgemoor District Council has strict rules on advertising hoardings next to roads, but it says that its regulations do not cover this type of 'graffiti' - even though it is so highly visible to motorists.

Spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's difficult for us to act as Fathers 4 Justice appears to have done this without the consent of the landowner."

"We can only take action where landowners have breached planning conditions by taking money and given their consent to advertising hoardings being located on their land. In this case, this appears to be graffiti."

A surprised spokeswoman for land owner Bill Hancock, whose land is at one of the two sites, said she was unaware of the attack when Burnham-On-Sea.com contacted her this week.

"We didn't know this had happened and are naturally very unhappy about it," she said.

Campaign group Fathers4Justice have made their mark on Bristol again by spelling out the group’s name on one of the city’s most famous landmarks.The name has been written in the grounds of Dower House, a large yellow building that stands overlooking the M32.

Once a mental hospital, the grade II listed house, which is 400 years old, has been converted into luxury apartments.

F4J bosses have said the stunt was carried out by a guerrilla splinter group following plans to step up operations in the city. Matt O’Connor, who founded F4J in December 2002, said he was not aware of the stunt.

He said: “There’s a lot of random activity going on in the West Country at the moment. This has been carried out by a guerrilla faction of Fathers4Justice. That’s the nature of our campaign at the moment.

“There’s always been a very strong power base in Bristol and things are starting to heat up again.”

Mr O’Connor has referred to Bristol as the “engine room” of Fathers4Justice in the past.

Campaigning dads are preparing to step up their protests against the legal system by targeting Bristol judges.Fathers4Justice (F4J), which was relaunched in the city earlier this year, is going back to some of its original tactics in an attempt to change the law.

But the move has been branded "inappropriate and irresponsible" by the judicial office.

Nationally, the group has drawn up a list of judges who, it claims, have treated dads badly during family law cases.

Their names and addresses have been published on the F4J website, www.fathers-4-justice.org, in a list headed "Your Time Is Up: Britain's Worst Judicial Offenders".

Five judges from the Bristol circuit are named on the list: Andrew Rutherford, Paul Robert Barclay, Richard Bromilow, David Keith Ticehurst and Susan Darwall Smith.

The campaign group is planning to target them with direct action during the coming weeks.

F4J's Bristol co-ordinator, Nigel Ace, said: "We will be targeting judges nationwide and are going to be doing a lot more of these kind of stunts to put the wind up them. There are going to be more rooftop protests.

"There has been too much talking, what with everything that's happened since the original group disbanded. We're now going back to our older tactics."

Mr Ace said the judges being targeted were ones who are known to the campaign group through members who have tried to get access to their children in the city.

He said: "We're all for equality - but there's no equality in the family courts.

"You go in and feel like you're a child, but worse, because you're so powerless."

The announcement comes days after the campaign group launched itself in America.

Campaigners dressed as Captain America and Batman climbed on to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.

Mr Ace hinted that the group could carry out more direct action in Bristol soon.

A Judicial Communications Office spokesperson said: "There is no justification or public interest served in publishing the home addresses or other private details of judges.

"It can serve no purpose other than to intrude into the privacy of the judge and encourage harassment of the judge and his/her family in their home.

"In the case of their court work, family judges have to make difficult decisions based on the individual circumstances of a case.

"By their very nature, these cases are emotional and feelings often run high.

"However, all parties have the opportunity to express their opinion to the judge prior to a decision being made and the right to seek to appeal decisions that they regard as unfair."

The giant 40ft penis of the world famous Cerne Giant, in the Dorset village of Cerne Abbas has been painted purple last night according to campaign group Fathers 4 Justice (F4J).

The group say they were contacted this morning by a father describing himself as the West Country's 'Purple Phantom'. Purple is the international colour for equality. Written beside the giant were a reference to a recently published book by Fathers 4 Justice.

The Phantom who styles himself and gets his inspiration from is favourite artist 'Banksy' wishes to remain anonymous but has commented

'The only people who might be a bit upset are the couples who apparently regularly copulate on the penis in the dead of night because it apparently has magical powers to boost fertility.It'll be interesting to see how many local men complain of purple hands and knees and women end up with purple bottoms and highlights! '

'The Giants penis definitely has a purple ting rather than a bright glow but rumour has it the local council have been 'rubbing it off' - Rather them than me you don't know what might happen !!'

When asked about any damage the Phantom said that 'The grass would grow quickly at this time of year and within the month you should be able to trim his bush.' If in a rush he suggested a quick Brazilian wax.

The 'Purple Phantom' also warned that he was going to close roads in Dorset and the West Country by spreading over two tonnes of purple jam onto major roads, dual carriageways and motorways. In the call he said, 'I've got my jam, and I'm going to use it.'

Fathers Dress As Santa's For Protest

Campaigners dressed as Santa Claus to stage a festive protest during an Exeter Cathedral carol concert.Eight members of the campaign group Fathers 4 Justice stood outside the landmark building during the Lord Mayor's carol service yesterday.

During the protest, they held placards saying "Put the father back into Christmas".They said the Church of England had failed to speak up about the problem of family breakdown.

Fathers 4 Justice member Jolly Stanesby, 39, who recently climbed onto the roof of a judge's house, attempted to scale the cathedral wall before police grabbed him.But none of the campaigners disrupted the service, which was attended by hundreds of people.

Fathers 4 Justice co-ordinator for the South West, said: "It went really well and people were very supportive of our cause."A spokesman at the Bishop's office said: "Bishop Michael Langrish has a deep concern, care and passion for the wholeness of family life."

Fathers' rights protesters staged a peaceful demonstration outside the offices of CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) in Plymouth, Taunton and Bristol. The effect resonated throughout CAFCASS, as by the time the whistle stop tour reached Taunton and Bristol, all CAFCASS personnel had left the building and had gone home!!!!

Dressed as Santa Claus and holding a huge banner and flags, a small group of Fathers 4 Justice (F4J) members stood outside the offices at Ford Park Lane, Mutley yesterday morning.

They handed out leaflets to passing motorists and pedestrians, highlighting the plight of fathers who are denied access to their children.

The group, who have staged many high profile protests in the past, are calling for changes in the law to give fathers greater access to their children following separation or divorce.

Regional spokesman Nigel Ace said: "Forty eight per cent of fathers don't see their children after two years. All we want is to see our children, and we won't be seeing them this Christmas.

"CAFCASS, an independent body working for the courts, have a prejudice against men and tend to favour women."

The protesters stayed for about an hour before heading off to Taunton.

Suzie Goodman, CAFCASS South West Regional Director, said: "We recognise that this is a difficult time of the year for parents who are not able to spend time with their children following separation. As an agency providing independent advice to the courts on family disputes, we focus on what is in the best interests of the child.

"We are not biased against either fathers or mothers and believe that, where there are no safety concerns, children benefit from a continuing relationship with both parents."

F4J planning a pyjama drama

Protest group Fathers 4 Justice are planning to send thousands of pairs of pyjamas to Whitehall as part of their next campaign. The founder of the group best known for their superhero antics on the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Buckingham Palace has decided to change the campaign's direction.

Matt O'Connor believes that while the superhero stunts gained great publicity for the cause, they were in danger of becoming a parody of themselves.

He is also concerned at the number of people who hijacked the Fathers 4 Justice logos and used it for their own cause.

The next big campaign from the group will see its 12,000 members being encouraged to support the call for overnight staying contact.

Fathers will put pressure on the Children's Minister Beverly Hughes ahead of October's parliamentary debate on family law reform.

They hope sending pyjamas to London will highlight the fact that many separated fathers do not see their children for overnight stays.

The new campaign follows proposals made by Fathers 4 Justice to the Court Welfare Service (Cafcass) to make overnight stays the minimum recommended parenting time.

Members are encouraged to include details of their individual cases when they send pyjamas to the Children's Minister.

A fleet of motorised beds will also hit the M25 as part of the campaign, along with a bed in a perspex box in Central London.

The beds can travel at 70 miles per hour and are completely legal and roadworthy.

On the night of October 20, Fathers 4 Justice members will stage an overnight protest outside the offices of the Department for Education and Skills before a "Bedlam" protest in Central London with thousands of men in pyjamas marching through the West End pushing beds to Whitehall.

Protesters taking part are urged to register for the march beforehand.

In keeping with the sleepover theme, thousands of alarm clocks will go off outside the DfES office where the group will hold a rally.

Matt O'Connor said: "We need to keep the pressure on.

"Cafcass have until September to wake up and start making genuine and meaningful progress with regard to family law reform.

"And overnight staying contact is at the very heart of what our campaign is about.

"We want MPs talking about the issue in parliament.

"The public need to be aware of what is going on and the kind of reform that is needed.
